Regarding Coronavirus / COVID-19:
Knowledge is power when it comes to viruses like
COVID-19 as well as other viruses or pathogens such as the flu, MRSA, and C.
Difficile. As medical providers, we are the people who will be responsible for
taking care of the sick; we must continue to learn how to control that risk and
remember that COVID-19 is one of many pathogens we risk facing.
MEDIC SOLO is pleased to provide 3 safe options for
refreshing or first-time learning:
Disaster + Travel + Wilderness First Aid
("dtWFA"):
-
"Blended Learning" online
course** plus 3-year credit to attend an in-person MEDIC SOLO dtWFA
class, the latter to solidify your skills and earn SOLO WFA certification.
-
Online-only course** only for alumni of
any wilderness medical school, to refresh your knowledge.
Online-only does not result in
certification, recertification, or CEUs.
-
In-person WFA certification / recertification course with added
strict safety measures including:
-
14-days pre-course illness screening questionnaire
-
Scan of each participant's body temperature each morning
-
Masks and eye protection worn at all times (we'll provide masks to those who don't have)
-
6+ feet physical distance maintained as appropriate throughout
class.
-
Best option: students register with non-social-distancing
partners and practice skills on each other, while distancing from everyone else.
-
Acceptable option: attend alone and bring a homemade
mannequin (stuffed pants & long-sleeve shirt) as your patient.
-
plus many more added safety precautions.
In-person
Certification Course Registration Form Spaces are limited to just 9 people plus instructor where
required. This means we are losing money running the course, while we
maintain prices the same as pre-COVID-19 times. MEDIC
SOLO is more dedicated to getting this education out there. Limited spaces
may fill quickly.
** Our online dtWFA
course includes:
-
Self-paced at your leisure, view recordings of expert
instructor course topics presentations and demonstrations. We initially
give you a month to view the course (nice! -- instead of packed into two days),
extendable upon request.
-
Ability to pause, rewind, replay ... things you can't do in a
live class.
-
Interspersed self-guided skills practice sessions.
-
Certificate of completion for those who finish and pass the
written test. (This
is not WFA certification, which comes with graduation from the in-person class.)
-
More Info & To Register:
Now is a time when your dtWFA skills may be needed most.
-
Hospital beds have been filling up and we need to reduce their demand.
If with dtWFA skills you treat someone and they no longer need to be
team-rescued or go to the hospital, fantastic and so helpful in many ways.
-
Some parks are seeing their highest-ever mid-week daytime visits. More people
are outdoor adventuring and most don't have wilderness first aid skills, and may
be in need especially as more first-timers go explore the outdoors.
-
Hopefully the following will never happen: fewer EMTs staffing ambulances and
thus a call to 911 for medical assistance is less responsive, or outbreaks occur
within hospitals and those entire facilities end up being quarantined and
unavailable ... leaving it up to dtWFA-trained folks to provide care.
A course feedback survey noted: all
graduates of our Disaster + Travel + Wilderness First Aid course are "safety
bubbles"
-- wherever they might be, everyone around them is now much safer, thanks to
their learning how to care for others
anywhere, anytime help is not immediately available. Whether you join us for learning or not, thank you for
all that you do to strengthen our communities, making disaster and wilderness
areas safer for all.
