Black Lives Matter

Part of being effective caregivers is creating physically and emotionally safe environments for all patients.  As educators, we strive to create the same for our students.  Here at MEDIC, in line with our Collaboration; Respect; Safe Learning statement, we recognize that remaining silent about the systemic racism, discrimination, and violence facing Black communities and communities of color, fails to create the safe spaces our patients and students need.  We choose to use our platform to speak out and to stand in solidarity with these communities, in seeking justice for the lives that have been taken, and in facing the legacies of racism and oppression in this country.

We believe that Black Lives Matter.

Black Skin Matters, too!

Endemic to medical education in much of the Western world, is teaching first aiders through medical professionals what injuries and illnesses look like on white skin only.  This abomination results in both missed and mis-diagnoses in people with dark-complexion skin.  We at MEDIC SOLO denounce this racist practice, and include in our courses:  presentations on what various conditions look like on dark skin.  Black skin matters.
