Recertify AWFA, WFR, W-EMT

  • Advanced Wilderness First Aid (AWFA)

  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR)

  • Wilderness EMT (W-EMT)**

STUDENT TESTIMONIAL:  Travis Greenlee, Outdoor Educator, Washington DC speaks about his experience taking the MEDIC SOLO WFA course to recertify his WFR (12/2/12)

More Student Testimonials:

>> "Matt was a phenomenal instructor. I was able to grasp new meaning from the material, particularly because of his:
-- enthusiasm
-- real world examples
-- simplified but thorough explanations
-- repetition (i.e. "zen" before scenarios)
-- explanation of "why" & mechanics of complicated processes.
I specifically appreciated the metaphors & explanations for processes -- I finally understand some things I had never really before, but just memorized rote.
"  - Anonymous feedback survey, June 2018

>> "Matt was thorough & knowledgeable.  I was impressed by how much he taught ... I was also impressed by the specific attention he paid to me as a WFR recert."

- anonymous feedback survey, September 2013

Did this course (taking WFA to re-cert WFR) meet your expectations?

>> "Yes, it even covered topics I did not learn when I earned my WFR which was awesome!"  - anonymous feedback survey, June 2015

>> "Yes + beyond!  I feel refreshed + competent as a WFR by being challenged [in this class] as a WFR + not a WFA"  - anonymous feedback survey, April 2013

Recertify by taking the 2-day WFA or AWFA Part II

You can take the MEDIC SOLO 2-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Advanced WFA Part II to recertify any of the certifications listed at the top of this page, if you have a current SOLO certification.  For other schools' certifications, please contact us to inquire.

If you choose to take the WFA course, your MEDIC instructor will interweave advanced information for you into the WFA class, and will be available during breaks and after class to answer additional questions.  While attending one of the WFA courses listed in the calendar on the right (register here), you'll receive a form to mail into SOLO along with a copy of your current certification cards (including CPR) and a separate $15 check to "SOLO" (or $25 for WEMT**).  SOLO then will mail you your new SOLO certification card.

If you choose to take the AWFA Part II course, ditto all of the above, plus please note that for MEDIC's AWFA Part II only (courses listed on this website only), being a MEDIC alum may be a prerequisite.

Expiring-Soon or Already-Expired Certification?

  • If you have a SOLO certification that expires shortly before a course you wish to attend listed in the calendar on the right, call SOLO at (603) 447-6711 to request/secure an extension, and then register here.

**WEMT Recertification Additional Guidance

  • WEMTs can recertify the W part of WEMT by taking the 2-day MEDIC SOLO WFA class.
  • WEMTs additionally need to recertify the EMT certification:
    • near you, you can do what's needed to recertify your state and/or national registry EMT;
    • or do some of what's needed near you, and then consider traveling to attend SOLO's "EMT NCCP" program in New Hampshire (this is what MEDIC SOLO instructor Matt Rosefsky enjoys doing, to keep the wilderness flavor), optionally followed by attending the WILD day right afterwards to recertify the W instead of attending a WFA class.
