Recertify by taking the 2-day WFA
You can take the MEDIC SOLO 2-day WFA (wilderness first aid) course to
recertify any of the certifications listed at the top of this page, if
you have a current certification with any of the following organizations:
SOLO (or MEDIC SOLO), including SOLO certs issued by Pat
Malone at UVM after 2011
WMI / NOLS
Aerie Backcountry Medicine
American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI)
Desert Mountain Medicine
Remote Medical International
Wilderness Medicine Outfitters
Wilderness Medicine Training Center
Instructor Matt Rosefsky will interweave advanced information for you into
the WFA class, and will be available during breaks and after class to answer
additional questions. While attending one of the WFA courses listed in the
calendar on the right (register
here), you'll receive a form to mail into SOLO along with a copy of your
current certification cards (including CPR) and a separate $15 check to "SOLO"
(or $25 for WEMT**). SOLO then will mail you your new SOLO certification
Currently Certified Through a Different Organization?
If your current certification is through an organization not listed above,
then you can inquire with that organization to see: if you present them
with a new SOLO WFA certification card, will they send you a new (higher)
(In order to get the SOLO higher-level re-certification card, your prior
class needs to be from one of the organizations listed above.)
Either way, hope to see you in one of the classes listed in the calendar
on the right!
Expiring-Soon or Already-Expired Certification?
If you have a SOLO certification that expires shortly before a course you
wish to attend listed in the calendar on the right, call SOLO at (603)
447-6711 to request/secure an extension, and then
If you have a SOLO certification that expired months ago, unfortunately
SOLO most likely is not able to grant an extension and taking the full course
again will be necessary.
**WEMT Recertification Additional Guidance
WEMTs can recertify the W part of WEMT by taking the 2-day MEDIC SOLO WFA
WEMTs additionally need to recertify the EMT certification:
near you, you can do what's needed to recertify your state and/or
national registry EMT;
or do some of what's needed near you, and then consider traveling to
attend SOLO's "EMT
RTP" program (this is what MEDIC SOLO instructor Matt Rosefsky enjoys
doing, to keep the wilderness flavor), optionally followed by attending the
WILD day right afterwards to recertify the W instead of attending a WFA
